Sonya Brand Interview
For the last few years, you will not find many people with the passion to support women through their challenges more than our guest today. Sonya Brand is the founder of Frances Bradley Memorial Women's Center, an organization providing women with shelter, counseling, and the goal of being self-sufficient in their lives. Today I had the opportunity to speak with Sonya Brand who was able to drop some essential knowledge on why she started, how the organization help women and how the community can support in a time of need.
What inspired the organization to begin serving women experiencing homelessness and crisis?
Sonya Brand-The Frances Bradley Memorial women’s Center was inspired by the need to provide a safe supportive place for women who are experiencing homelessness property, and other personal crisis. The missions focuses on meeting women where they are offering compassion and practical support and helping them move towards stability and independence.
How do you help women gain confidence to overcome barriers such as employment and housing?
Sonya Brand- Secondly, we helped women build confidence by providing encouragement, resources, education, and opportunities that help them recognize their strength and abilities by addressing barriers such as an employment, housing and financial stability. The center help women develop the skills and self-confidence. They need to make positive changes and work toward a more stable future.
What can we do as a community to help women who are experiencing these challenges?
Sonya Brand- Lastly, as a community, we can support women by treating them with dignity and compassion rather than judgment, we can volunteer donate needed resources support programs that provide housing and employment assistance, and help connect women with community services. Most importantly, we can create a community where women experiencing homelessness are crisis know that they are valued, supported, incapable of rebuilding their lives.
